Conference Description
This conference is part of our mission and vision to bring healthcare students, educators, and providers together in an effort to improve health outcomes for American Indians/Alaska Natives (Indigenous Peoples) and advance our nursing profession. Our goal for this conference is to honor our roots and shape the future through tradition and innovation to impact evolving healthcare. This conference will be valuable for nursing students, practicing nurses who work with American Indian/Alaska Native relatives and communities, as well as nurse educators, health care organizations, nursing schools, and our cherished partners of NANAINA.
Conference Objectives
- Examine models of tradition and innovation that promote Indigenous Peoples healing and wellness.
- Explore avenues to elevate the practice, education, and research voice of Indigenous peoples.
- Highlight the innovative practice, education, and research methods of Indigenous Nurses.
- .Examine how social determinants of health affect the wellbeing in Indigenous communities and propose policies that promote equity.
- Discuss strategies of recruitment and mentoring of Indigenous nursing students and faculty to achieve diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

The National Alaska Native American Indian Nurses Association (NANAINA) is accepting abstracts until March 15th, 2025, for the 2025 NANAINA Annual Conference which will be held on July 28 - 30, 2025, at the SCF Nuka Learning & Wellness Center. See flyer here for more details.

2024 NANAINA Conference "Being a Good Relative to Achieve Health Equity"
Conference Description
This conference is part of our mission and vision to bring healthcare students, educators, and providers together in an effort to improve the outcomes for American Indian/Alaska Native people and advance our nursing profession. Our theme for this conference is "Being a Good Relative to Achieve Health Equity". It was energizing to see everyone at our recent conference in Tucson, AZ and we are looking forward to continue to grow these friendships and professional networks this next year in Rapid City. This conference will be valuable for nursing students of all educational levels, practicing nurses of all professional levels working with American Indian/Alaska Native/First Nations patients, nurse educators, health care organizations and nursing schools serving American Indian/Alaska Native/First Nations people, and our cherished partners of NANAINA.

- Describe successful programs or interventions to improve health equity for AI/AN people.
- Investigate social drivers of health that impact health disparities in AI/AN populations.
- Explore opportunities to influence health equity utilizing research and education.
- .Examine elements of structural racism and identify actions for response.
NANAINA Pelagie "Mike" Snesrud Nursing Student Scholarship
NANAINA is pleased to announce the Pelagie "Mike" Snesrud Nursing Student Scholarship in honor of the late Pelagie "Mike" Snesrud. Three Academic Scholarships of $500.00 each will be given at this years 2024 NANAINA Conference in Rapid City, June 10 - 11th, 2024. Email completed applications along with supporting documents to nanainainfo@nanaina.org by Monday, June 3rd, 2024, 5 p.m. HST. Winners will be announced at the 2024 NANAINA Conference, Rapid City, SD.

NANAINA is pleased to accept registration for our national conference. This conference is part of our mission and vision to bring healthcare students, educators, and providers together in an effort to improve the outcomes for American Indian/Alaska Native people and advance our nursing profession. Our goal for this conference is “Renewing Our Spirit in Nursing” and reconnect the circle of Indigenous nurses. It’s been many years since we’ve had a national conference, so we are looking forward to rekindling those friendships and professional networks. This conference will be valuable for nursing students of all educational levels, practicing nurses of all professional levels working with American Indian/Alaska Native/First Nations patients, nurse educators, health care organizations and nursing schools serving American Indian/Alaska Native/First Nations people, and our cherished partners of NANAINA. At this year’s conference we will be recognizing, celebrating, and honoring the contributions to the nursing profession by the late Captain Pelagie “Mike” Snesrud, RN, BSN, Martha Primeaux, RN, MSN, FAAN and Debra M. (Manidoo Ikwe) Smith, RN, BSN, MSN.
